Troubleshooting

When a statement fails to convert

Why a statement can fail to convert, what the message means, and whether you're charged for it.

A statement that shows FAIL is different from one that failed to convert:

  • Converted but shows FAIL: the data was extracted, but the statement didn't pass one or more of its checks, and it shows the reason (what PASS and FAIL mean). The rows stay in your ledger so you can fix them (how to fix it). Its pages count towards your plan, like any converted statement.
  • Failed to convert: PDFDrill couldn't get usable data out of it. You aren't charged: the pages held for it are returned to your allowance.

Reasons a statement can fail to convert include:

  • the PDF needs a password to open (see locked PDFs);
  • the opening or closing balance couldn't be found, for example because the summary page is missing;
  • the pages are unreadable, for example a very poor scan.

The statement shows a message with the reason. If a statement keeps failing, email support@pdfdrill.com with the bank's name and the message you saw. Please don't send the statement unless we ask.
