Statement checks

What to do when a statement shows FAIL

If a statement shows FAIL, the reason and the difference tell you what to look for. How to find and fix a missing or misread transaction.

Start with the reason shown on the statement.

If the amounts don't add up

The statement shows the total difference between what the statement says and what was extracted. The difference doesn't point to a specific row, so use the amount as a clue:

  1. Look for a transaction of that amount. A difference of $42.50 can mean a $42.50 row was missed or misread. Compare the rows against the PDF; each row shows its PDF page.
  2. Look for half the difference. If the difference is exactly twice one transaction's amount, that transaction may have the wrong sign (money in recorded as money out, or the reverse).
  3. Check the statement type. If a credit card statement was read as a bank statement (or the reverse), the balance check uses the wrong rule and can fail. Switch the type (bank vs credit card).
  4. Fix the row and save. The check re-runs immediately.

If the difference matches a whole section's signs being reversed, PDFDrill shows a hint and offers to reverse that section's signs. Nothing changes until you confirm, and the edit is recorded.

If the reason is a missing or conflicting detail

Follow the message on the statement. Check that the PDF you uploaded is complete, including its first page and summary, and upload the full statement again if a page was missing.

Still stuck? Email support@pdfdrill.com with the reason shown, the difference and the bank's name. Please don't send the statement unless we ask for it.
